Favorite Things: September Edition

Seasons are officially changing and here in Duluth, we’ve moved from Summer into the only other season we have: sweater season. I’m happily welcoming the change of temperature and the slowness that comes with it.

Just for fun, I rounded up a few of my favorites from the past month as I’ve made the transition into a bit of a cozier routine. Spoiler alert, no Pumpkin Spice anything made the list! 😉

My favorite go-to Fall uniform: jeans, cozy sweaters and this hat that makes me feel way cooler than I am

Everlane: The Cheeky Straight Jean

I’ve been on the hunt for a new pair of denim for awhile and these checked all the boxes for me. They’re comfy enough that I gladly put them on when I need a switch after wearing leggings for the thousandth day in row. Sweeten the deal with 10% off your order with my referral link!

Gigi Pip: Monroe Rancher hat

I love hats (on other people) and never, ever, ever felt like they looked good on me (and trust me, I’ve TRIED!). This is the hat that has made me a hat person (in my now expert opinion). I’ve already found plenty of uses for it and can’t wait to add it to more of my outfits this Fall.

My favorite step in my beauty routine:

BeautyCounter Lipstick

One application stays on ALL DAY LONG! Which is so important, obviously, in a time when we’re working from home and wearing masks whenever we’re out in public. 😉 Regardless, this is by far the best lipstick I’ve ever tried and will make you feel oh so put together on your next Zoom Call. At the moment, I have too many shades to count, but lately my go-to shade has been Brunch — perfect for a subtle, everyday lip color.

My favorite recent read: Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

A five out of five stars with my latest read! It’s a comedic take on a crime that, well, never actually happens. A man mistakenly tries to rob a cash-less bank and from there, mistakenly takes a group of people hostage. It’s that group of people that end up being the most complicated part of the whole series of events. There’s no shortage of characters you latch onto as the story twists and turns and keeps connecting in the best possible ways.

Backman’s writing is so delightful and quirky. While there are some serious issues addressed in the book, the writing covers it in a way that is approachable and light. Thanks to the super short chapters & a quick hook, this book has officially gotten me out of my reading slump (I have about five books I started and did not finish this month) so for that alone I loved it.

This is my first book by Backman so I can’t say how this one ranks compared to his others, but I’m officially a fan and eager to get to the other Backman reads on my shelf.

And an extra bonus: you can get this book for just $10 here

My favorite quarantine purchase: Nespresso machine

You guys, this was my big, crazy “will I be glad I bought this in 3 months?” purchase while in quarantine. Well, I am thrilled to report that it’s been a few months and I’m obsessed. I STILL love supporting my local coffee shops (that will never change) but both Ben and I use this daily and love it. Side note: Ben gave me such a hard time when I bought this because it seemed like such a frivolous purchase, but he likes it even more than I do now so talk about a win, win!

My go-to: cappuccino (with a dash of cinnamon if I’m feeling adventurous)

Ben’s go-to: a double shot of espresso

My favorite follow: @natalieborton

Natalie is my new favorite go-to for outfit-inspo! My favorite thing about Natalie: she is all about capsule closets, minimal living and only buying what you NEED and not just shopping because there is a sale. She’s the only fashion blogger I know that tells you: “I just got this jean jacket and LOVE it, but if you don’t need a jean jacket or haven’t been looking for one, don’t buy this.” You’ll splend plenty of time on her blog so don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

My (new) favorite local shop: Mivikin

Earlier this year, a friend of ours opened a new home goods shop full of vintage and handcrafted items from local & regional makers. We scored these adorable little shelves earlier this month and I can’t recommend stopping by here enough. I wanted to buy everything, but saved some for other customers (you’re welcome). Located conveniently in the Lincoln Park Craft District, it’s a must-stop list next time you’re in town, and oh so convenient to pick up a cozy beverage from Dovetail Cafe while you’re at it! Make sure you give them a follow on the ‘gram!

And there are my September favorites, hope it served up a little dose of inspiration!
